Maybe they are elves. Maybe they are only somewhat elven. Either way, the figures are nearly life sized. Painted in oil on a wood panel as part of the 'couples in ambiguous poses' series.

Sleeping; perhaps dreaming

Playing with texture and edge using somewhat painterly brushwork on a heavy wooden panel (48in. x 24in.).  

Harsh interior light dances fleetingly across the foreground, yet steadily glows from a dreamscape hinted at behind the sleeping figure.

Deep Unconscious

Drapery waved as gesture towards finding vitality underneath conscious awareness.  Oil on wood.  20" x 30".  Original available for USD 1800.

Titans

Pandora and Epimetheus figures painted after El Greco sculptures in foreground. Atlas and Prometheus pictured in background.  Oil on linen coated wood, 28" x 28" on a 6" deep reinforced panel suitable for display as a free standing work as well as hung traditionally.

Painting Allen Dulles

This is a self portrait of me painting Allen Dulles. It is done in oil on wood, and measures 22" x 24".

Pushing Through Slate

This mixed media piece (acrylic paint, oil pastel, and knife scratching) was done on an old chalkboard. It is a sort of raw playing with the interaction of texture and composition.

Inverted Time

This experimental work was painted in oil on a canvas that was stretched over a three dimensional form. The painting's circular center is a few inches closer to the viewer than the piece's edges.

Shrouded Couple with Helix

This is one of my favorite recent paintings.  The image above shows some detail of the figures while the image to the right illustrates this work's overall composition.

I got the idea from meditating on how drapery and DNA might want to visually interact with one another.
 
Titled: "Shrouded Couple with Helix," it is oil on canvas, and ended up having to do with transcending duality.  

This piece is quite large (84" tall by 28" wide by 3" deep), and is stretched on a reinforced oak frame.  

Completed January, 2013.
